This exhibition celebrates resilience, freedom, and creativity while honoring the legacy of The Negro Motorist Green Book, which guided safe passage for Black travelers across the country during and beyond Jim Crow. Cars became an object that provided freedom, expression, and pride. When enjoying hip-hop, we listen to songs about designer cars, 22-inch rims, reliable buckets, and bumpin’ speakers. Cars and hip-hop are intertwined and an integral part of the culture.
