The Phantom’s masks, candlelit corridors, underground lair, and crashing chandelier make Cameron Mackintosh’s production an unexpectedly perfect Halloween afternoon on its own terms. The 38-person cast and 14-musician live orchestra at The Smith Center deliver the full theatrical spectacle with all the drama the season calls for. Isaiah Bailey’s Phantom is a compelling presence on stage, and the 2:00 PM start means you have all of Halloween night still ahead of you. No costumes required, though the occasion seems to call for it.
