The Apiary by Kate Douglas is a darkly comic sci‑fi fable set in 2044, where the last of Earth’s surviving bees are kept in a synthetic apiary. When two lab assistants accidentally stumble upon the macabre miracle that propels the hive to flourish, they push ethical boundaries and personal limits in order to sustain the colony. Equal parts unsettling, absurd, grotesque, and hilarious, The Apiary buzzes with ecological urgency and moral complexity.
