SUMMARY:Sagebrush to Sandstone: Paper Bird Workshop with Bobbie Ann Howell
DESCRIPTION:Join Nevada Humanities at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026\, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with a folded paper bird workshop with artist Bobbie Ann Howell. Registration is not required – this is a drop-in workshop. Supplies will be provided. The workshop will cover the basic pattern\, folding\, and design options. Your bird can rest on a table or send a message about the beauty of birds. \nThis is a family-friendly event that is free and open to ages 8 to adult. Project includes ability to use of scissors. If you plan to also explore the trails\, we encourage you to check weather conditions and the temperature\, wear enclosed shoes\, and bring layers\, sunscreen\, and a hat as needed. \nNevada Humanities’ Sagebrush to Sandstone programs invite people to explore\, learn\, and express their experiences in nature though art\, writing\, and listening. Birds are a vital aspect of our nature that bring beauty\, music\, and joy across the world. Nevada is part of the Pacific Flyway that many species of birds use to rest and feed during their annual migration\, as well as the many species that call Nevada home. Our state bird\, the Mountain Bluebird\, is one of many birds you can discover in our parks\, our forests\, our deserts\, our wetlands\, and even in your own backyard. \nThis program is supported by Nevada Humanities’ generous donors and the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University.
