SUMMARY:“Postcards From the Edge (of Nevada)” Our Center Reno
DESCRIPTION:McKinley Arts & Culture Center\nGallery West\nFeb. 23 – April 2\, 2026\nReception\, Thursday\, Feb. 26\, 2026\, 5-7 p.m. \nReno\, NV- A community art gallery featuring queer artists and their words of hope. \nPostcards From the Edge (of Nevada) is a community-driven exhibition that invites queer artists and allies to reflect on place\, identity\, and survival at the margins. Using the humble postcard as both artwork and message\, this exhibition transforms personal expression into a shared act of connection—one that crosses distance\, isolation\, and silence. \nAt the edge of geography\, culture\, and visibility\, queer communities in Nevada have long cultivated resilience through creativity\, humor\, tenderness\, and mutual support. This exhibition honors those lived experiences by creating space for artists of all backgrounds to speak directly to the queer community—past\, present\, and future—through words and images meant to be held\, sent\, and remembered. \nPostcards From the Edge (of Nevada) is not just a collection of artworks\, but a living archive of care. Each postcard becomes a gesture of solidarity\, a reminder that even at the edge\, we are not alone. \n“At Our Center\, we are dedicated to creating and supporting inclusive programs for the entire LGBTQ+ community. This includes offering support groups for youth and adult trans members\, community groups for seniors\, and prevention-focused initiatives.” \nTo learn more about what Our Center offers\, please visit: https://ourcenterreno.org/ \nGallery West\, located in McKinley Arts & Culture Center is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno. To learn more please visit: https://www.reno.gov/community/arts-culture/city-art-galleries \nGallery West\nMcKinley Arts & Culture Center\n925 Riverside Drive\nReno\, Nevada 89503 \nMonday-Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. \nFree of charge to the public \nFor more information\, please contact Erica Hill\, City of Reno Arts & Culture at 775-689-8459.

SUMMARY:Local Authors Month Kickoff: Book Signings\, Readings and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:April Fools fun: people who are “in the know” are invited to bring gullible friends (especially teens!) to get a free book and have it signed by Mark Twain.\nThere are two different times to attend: 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. \nThe first 300 people will receive a free book! Twain will be impersonated by McAvoy Layne of Lake Tahoe. He is a hilarious and believable Twain who’s performed internationally and earned many awards.\nTwain and local author legend\, Todd Borg\, will sign books\, read from their books\, and answer questions. Plus\, at least 15 local authors will sign and mingle!\nThis prank kicks off April: Local Authors Month. Grassroots will showcase books from 100+ local authors (no joke)!

SUMMARY:Home Truth: Image-making in Absence\, Photography by Steven Seidenberg
DESCRIPTION:The photographic practice of Steven Seidenberg explores a material world of the unnoticed\, fixing attention on structures\, environments\, and landscapes often hidden in plain sight. Three photographic series are combined in this exhibition; each focuses on past and present living conditions in a different area of the world (Puglia and Rome\, Italy; Kanazawa\, Japan). Seidenberg’s richly detailed images capture current and former living spaces—houses\, tents\, outbuildings\, and empty lots— providing the viewer with ideas about the lived environment\, how space is used\, and how humans travel through and live within the spaces they occupy under wide-ranging material conditions. \nImage: Steven Seidenberg from the series\, The Architecture of Silence: Abandoned Lives of the Italian South\, photograph\, courtesy of the artist
