Smiles\nGreet chirping joy birds. \nJoin Nevada Humanities and local poet and educator John Arsenault on Saturday\, April 25\, 2026\, from 1-2 p.m. for a Sagebrush to Sandstone workshop celebrating the art and beauty of haiku in the spring time. This workshop will take place indoors at the Huffaker Historic Schoolhouse at Bartley Ranch Park in Reno\, and include a brief outdoor walk. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about a brief history of haiku and draft and practice their own haiku inspired by nature. \nThis workshop is open to participants of all ages and skill levels. Pencil and paper will be provided. \nSpace for this event is limited\, and registration in advance is required.  \n\n\n\nThis program is supported with funding by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University.

SUMMARY:Sagebrush to Sandstone: Trail Hike and Poetry Workshop with Katie Karnehm-Esh
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Poetry Month\, join Nevada Humanities and the Bristlecone General Store in Baker for a weekend of creativity and connection! Led by Katie Karnehm-Esh\, Humanities Center Coordinator at Great Basin College\, these workshops embrace Nevada’s alluring landscape and your creative powers. \nOn Saturday\, April 25\, 2026\, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.\, arrive at the Bristlecone General Store in Baker. Participants will then drive to the Pole Canyon Trailhead in Great Basin National Park where Karnehm-Esh will lead a two-mile hike on this easy-moderate trail with low elevation gain. Participants will then return to the trailhead picnic area for a writing session focused on our senses and connection with nature. \nBring a journal\, writing materials\, water\, and snacks. Wear layers of clothing\, sunscreen\, and a hat. \nReserve your spot by calling the Stargazer Inn at 775-234-7323. \n\n\n\nThis program is sponsored by a grant from White Pine County Tourism & Recreation in partnership with White Pine Main Street\, the Humanities Center at Great Basin College\, and Nevada Humanities.
