SUMMARY:Sharing Your Story Through Photography\, Written Word\, & Music
DESCRIPTION:Mark Vollmer (photographer/author) and Jim Eaglesmith (singer/songwriter) will help you create your own multimedia community song to be proud of. \nThis multi-session program is designed to help you discover your potential of storytelling via photography\, journaling\, and using your journal words to create a special community song that everyone can take ownership in. The first six sessions will begin with Jim performing an original song related to the week’s theme\, followed by lessons on how to take evocative photographs via Mark’s instructional slide shows and everyone participating in photo shoots at the senior center grounds (indoors or outdoors depending on everyone’s comfort). Journaling our experiences will mark the end of each session. Mark will assign optional photography assignments for you to work on together or individually for the coming days\, and Mark will review those photographs at the beginning of the next session. Each week will cover a different theme of photography & writing as outlined in the curriculum below. This will all culminate in putting your photographs and journal words together for a performance of “One Community”\, a song-in-progress Jim designed to add verses to. Items to bring: paper & pencil/pen and camera of any type (phone\, tablet\, digital\, or film camera).

SUMMARY:Free Family Concert – Tchaikovsky Discovers America
DESCRIPTION:Free Family Concert\nWiggles welcome\, MEMORIES MADE \n“There’s an electric energy in this country… all these people\, so generous and open-hearted… their ideas\, their dreams\, their music… all flowing together like a mighty river – everything tumbling toward the future!” – Tchaikovsky describes what he’s discovered in America. \nThe Reno Phil presents Tchaikovsky Discovers America by Classical Kids LIVE! \nBased on the actual historical event\, this story tells of the great composer’s arrival in New York for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891 and his famous trip to Niagara Falls. A surprise encounter with a young American girl\, Jennie\, reveals much about Tchaikovsky – his life in Russia\, his love of music and his fears of conducting. This is a poignant story of the meeting of old world influences and new world experiences; a tale of contrast\, courage and classical music.\nAudiences will enjoy more than twenty-five excerpts of the composer’s music including passages from his three famous ballets – The Nutcracker\, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake -The 1812 Overture\, First Piano Concerto and String Serenade. The music is magically woven into the drama as two actors recreate historical incidents from the composer’s life and dance story passages from his famous ballets. This delightful concert\, dance and story performance is approximately 50 minutes in length and is an ideal introduction to the orchestra for young listeners. \nPlaza Activities: Enjoy special activities for children on the plaza and in the concert hall lobbies related to the theme of the concert\, including a coloring station\, craft station\, and more. Activities take place from 3:00 p.m.- 3:55 p.m. for 4:00 p.m. concertgoers.
