SUMMARY:“At the Heart of Nevada: Basin and Range”
DESCRIPTION:Curated By: Julian Kilker\, Checko Salgado\, and Paula Garrett   \nFeb. 23- April 17\, 2026  \nReception: Wednesday\, March 4\, 2026\, 5-7 p.m.   \nOn the 10-year anniversary of the Basin and Range National Monument\, three friends curated a documentary photography and video exhibit documenting this remote region of Nevada—one located several hours by car north of Las Vegas and Southeast of Reno. The monument features 1\,100 square miles of spectacular undeveloped mountains and valleys in southeastern Nevada\, and its protected status preserves geological and historical features for future generations while continuing to provide access for recreation\, grazing\, and military training.   \nThe collaboration behind this exhibit echoes the cooperation among Nevadan volunteers\, artists\, researchers\, locals\, and visitors who enjoy and help protect our state’s wealth. Basin and Range National Monument is the result of an innovative collaboration among multiple stakeholders. At the Heart of Nevada parallels this creation\, focusing on multiple uses of the land and collaborations among these stakeholders. Among the photographs and videos by multiple contributors are representations of geology and history\, ranching\, volunteering\, recreation\, and artistic and military engagement. Its curators\, board members of the non-profit organization Friends of Basin and Range\, help ensure protection of the ecological\, cultural\, historic\, and recreational resources of the Monument area through community engagement\, advocacy\, interpretive and educational programming\, support of academic research\, site stewardship\, and restoration efforts.  \nFor more information about the Basin & Range National Monument visit https://www.friendsofbasinandrange.com.   \nThe Metro Gallery\, located on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall\, is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno. DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action: Tricia Poulos Leonard \nThursday\, March 27\, 2026\, from 9 a.m.-noon \nLocated at:\nDarkshot Coffee\nIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101\nReno\, NV 89501 \nAbout The Artist: \nAs a painter\, I find inspiration in the world around me. I employ a personal vocabulary of marks and colors that reflects the natural world. My work varies from representational to abstract\, and I am continually moving between the two styles. I tend to work in series\, either with the materials I use or the exploration of imagery. Every painting is an experiment to me. My materials\, techniques\, and interests all direct me to a place that craves a connection to the world we live in. \n#abstractartist #artistinaction #darkshotcoffee

SUMMARY:Intersections: Where Inspiration Meets the Road
DESCRIPTION:Corn Creek’s Changing Gallery hosts an exciting new photography show by artist Jess Moore. Join us on March 28 for an artist’s talk. Jess will be sharing her creative wisdom\, sticktoitiveness\, and stories from the road.\n\nJess has untethered from a brick-and-mortar home opting to travel through the West to make her art in the mountains in a 26-foot travel trailer. She is a Mixed Media Artist who started her career as a graphic designer. Jess works with a variety of materials and mediums\, from wood to watercolor\, photography to embroidery.\n\nShe has volunteered 2500+ hours over the past seven years in a variety of public land locations. Jess has been Artist in Residence at five public land units and continues to gather inspiration from the places where the road takes her. You can find her work in various park and museum stores across the country.\nPlease direct all accommodation requests to Jennifer Heroux at 702-515-5453\, or jennifer_heroux@fws.gov\, by no later than close-of-business on March 18\, 2026.
