SUMMARY:Beyond the Fence: Recent Artwork by Robin Stark
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the City of Henderson\, will host a solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture and mixed media artwork by Nevada-based artist\, Nevada Arts Council/National Endowment for the Arts project grant recipient\, and College of Southern Nevada Professor of Fine Arts\, Robin Stark. Beyond the Fence: Recent Artwork by Robin Stark will open on Friday\, Oct. 17\, 2025\, and run through Saturday\, Feb. 7\, 2026\, in the Art Gallery at the City of Henderson’s Debra March Center of Excellence. A special gallery talk and reception will take place on Tuesday\, Feb. 3\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m. \nRobin Stark received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Davis and her Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania State University in State College\, Pennsylvania. Freelancing as a ceramic artist by marketing a body of work at wholesale markets was appealing after graduation\, but a move to Nevada in the 90s restored her interest in making one-of-a-kind pieces\, while working full-time at an architectural firm coordinating public artwork and producing graphic design. Years passed\, and Stark’s original passion for art education brought her to the College of Southern Nevada\, Las Vegas\, where she leads the ceramic program as a full-time faculty member in the Fine Arts Department. \nNewton’s law of gravity states: What goes up must come down. Stark lightheartedly compares this theory and its simplicity and directness to how she is motivated to create her ceramic sculptural forms and vessels. Perceptions and impressions from her experiences eventually come out as emotions or ideas transformed into a narrative\, ceramic objects animated through form\, color\, and texture. What Stark experiences and her inner reactions must come out. \nThe Center of Excellence is a partnership between the City of Henderson and the College of Southern Nevada. Located in West Henderson\, this facility is a critical feature for diversifying our industry by fulfilling a need for high-skilled\, advanced manufacturing training. This specialized training facility is a valuable resource for both businesses that want to relocate to the area\, as well as existing locally based companies looking to expand. The Center of Excellence is located in the burgeoning West Henderson area\, which boasts the popular Henderson Executive Airport and is home to a wide range of distribution centers\, corporate headquarters\, and industrial parks. \nThe CSN Arts Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours of the Debra March Center of Excellence Art Gallery are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Debra March Center of Excellence Art Gallery is closed on Saturday and Sunday\, Nevada state holidays\, and between CSN Academic Terms. The Debra March Center of Excellence is located at 2200 Via Inspirada\, Henderson\, Nevada 89044. \n“This program/project was supported\, in part\, by the Nevada Arts Council\, a state agency\, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency\, and the state of Nevada.” \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit http://www.csn.edu/artgallery

SUMMARY:Christine Knize: Orchidelirium
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts will host an exhibition of large-scale oil paintings by Florida-based artist Christine Knize. Christine Knize: Orchidelirium opens Friday\, Dec. 12\, 2025\, and runs through Saturday\, Feb. 14\, 2026\, in the Fine Arts Gallery on the North Las Vegas Campus of the College of Southern Nevada. A special gallery talk and artist reception\, with refreshments\, will take place on Friday\, Dec. 12\, 2025\, at 6 p.m. \nChristine Knize\, alumna of Tyler School of Art\, Bachelor of Fine Arts\, and Rhode Island School of Design\, Master of Fine Arts\, born in New York City\, inherited her artistic talent from two generations of women artists. Her academic journey led her to spend three years in Italy and France\, specializing in the Renaissance. Throughout her career\, Knize maintained a dual focus on painting and photography. In 1986\, she moved to Miami\, where she established a paint decoration company\, which drew the attention of numerous celebrities. Notably\, Knize dedicated years to the restoration of the Biltmore Hotel\, where she meticulously revived the hand-painted finishes adorning the lobby and ballrooms. She also played a role in the initial renovations of Miami Beach Art Deco hotels\, contributing to the preservation of historical landmarks. After three decades in Miami\, Knize embraced a new chapter in Jacksonville\, Florida\, where she channels her artistic energy into creating large-scale canvases of orchids. \nSpeaking of her work\, Knize says\, “I have forever been captivated by orchids\, the jewel-like flowers with vibrant colors and striking patterns. Each orchid possesses a unique personality compelling me to capture it on canvas. I approach these flowers as portraits\, often working on large-scale surfaces to honor their beauty and complexity. My technique draws inspiration from the European masters\, using oil paint\, brushes\, and multiple layers of translucent glazes\, without relying on other mediums or tools. This meticulous process results in realistic works\, some taking months to complete.” \nThe CSN Fine Arts Gallery is free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Fine Arts Gallery is located adjacent to the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre Lobby on the North Las Vegas campus located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Avenue\, one mile East of I-15 North. \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit http://www.csn.edu/artgallery

SUMMARY:“At the Heart of Nevada: Basin and Range”
DESCRIPTION:Curated By: Julian Kilker\, Checko Salgado\, and Paula Garrett   \nFeb. 23- April 17\, 2026  \nReception: Wednesday\, March 4\, 2026\, 5-7 p.m.   \nOn the 10-year anniversary of the Basin and Range National Monument\, three friends curated a documentary photography and video exhibit documenting this remote region of Nevada—one located several hours by car north of Las Vegas and Southeast of Reno. The monument features 1\,100 square miles of spectacular undeveloped mountains and valleys in southeastern Nevada\, and its protected status preserves geological and historical features for future generations while continuing to provide access for recreation\, grazing\, and military training.   \nThe collaboration behind this exhibit echoes the cooperation among Nevadan volunteers\, artists\, researchers\, locals\, and visitors who enjoy and help protect our state’s wealth. Basin and Range National Monument is the result of an innovative collaboration among multiple stakeholders. At the Heart of Nevada parallels this creation\, focusing on multiple uses of the land and collaborations among these stakeholders. Among the photographs and videos by multiple contributors are representations of geology and history\, ranching\, volunteering\, recreation\, and artistic and military engagement. Its curators\, board members of the non-profit organization Friends of Basin and Range\, help ensure protection of the ecological\, cultural\, historic\, and recreational resources of the Monument area through community engagement\, advocacy\, interpretive and educational programming\, support of academic research\, site stewardship\, and restoration efforts.  \nFor more information about the Basin & Range National Monument visit https://www.friendsofbasinandrange.com.   \nThe Metro Gallery\, located on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall\, is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno.
