DESCRIPTION:The Reno Portrait Society welcomes you to the 2026 exhibit of their work. We are excited to return to the McKinley Center for the Arts. We celebrate the work of our group and the lives of those who have taken time out of their busy days to model for us and share their stories. \nThe Reno Portrait Society was founded in 1957 by a group of artists dedicated to painting portraits from life. The society has continued to grow and expand through the years to enjoy and learn from the shared experience of the art of portraiture. We meet weekly to work from a model. Artists work in a variety of mediums\, from charcoal and graphite and pastel to watercolor and oil. Our workshop participants continually explore our diverse community to work from models of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As portrait artists all faces are unique and interesting. All have a compelling presence and interesting stories which we strive to communicate on paper or canvas. \nOf course\, most of the artists who are members of the group also work with other subjects and mediums.  This show\, PORTRAITS AND MORE\, is a reflection of the varied interests of our members.  We hope you enjoy the show. \nWe welcome artists of all levels. And we welcome those who are interested in becoming a paid model for the group. The exhibition is on view at Nevada State University through Dec. 4\, 2026. \nThis traveling exhibition\, curated by the Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Services Program\, features 2023 fellows: Jeffrey Burden of Las Vegas\, Glynn Cartledge of Reno\, Gig Depio of Las Vegas\, Miya Hannan of Reno\, Brent Holmes of Las Vegas\, and Bobbie Ann Howell of Las Vegas. Each artist created work independently of one another and with no intention of ever appearing together; yet\, when shown alongside one another\, the exhibit reveals how an artist’s place\, time and environment can create unexpected and unintended connections that share human experiences.
