SUMMARY:Notions of Erasure: United by Territory
DESCRIPTION:Nevada State University\nThalia Dondero Gallery\, Christenson Education Building – CEB Second Floor\nMonday-Friday during regular hours of operation\nFree parking and open to the public\nMaps and hours of operation \nExhibition run: Aug. 31 – Dec. 4\, 2026\nReception: Oct. 15\, 2026 5:00 – 7:00 PM \nThe Thalia Dondero Gallery presents “Notions of Erasure: United By Territory\,” an exhibit that provides an opportunity for the residents and visitors of the Vegas Valley to view selected works from the 2023 Nevada Arts Council Visual Arts Fellows. The exhibition is on view at Nevada State University through Dec. 4\, 2026. \nThis traveling exhibition\, curated by the Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Services Program\, features 2023 fellows: Jeffrey Burden of Las Vegas\, Glynn Cartledge of Reno\, Gig Depio of Las Vegas\, Miya Hannan of Reno\, Brent Holmes of Las Vegas\, and Bobbie Ann Howell of Las Vegas. Each artist created work independently of one another and with no intention of ever appearing together; yet\, when shown alongside one another\, the exhibit reveals how an artist’s place\, time and environment can create unexpected and unintended connections that share human experiences. This exhibit brings together an extraordinary collection of unique artworks that span multiple media—from intimate drawings and bold paintings to intricate textiles\, delicate cut paper compositions\, and innovative digital creations. \nThe prestigious Nevada Arts Council Fellowship Award provides meaningful financial support and enhanced public recognition to exceptional Nevada artists\, fostering their continued pursuit of artistic excellence and creativity. \nThe exhibit is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative (NTI) Traveling Exhibition Program \, which delivers high-quality visual arts exhibits to communities throughout the state. It is funded by the State of Nevada and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Nevada Arts Council is a division of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. \nThe Thalia Dondero Gallery is a program of the Office for the Arts at Nevada State University. For more information about our arts programming\, visit our webpage and follow us on Instagram\, Facebook\, and X at @NevadaStateArts. \nArt Credit: Miyah Hannah\, Certainty 3

SUMMARY:Opening Reception at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a joyous opening reception at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on Oct. 23 from 5–9 p.m.  \nAll of our new exhibitions and installations will be on view. Come and see work by local\, national\, and international artists who celebrate visual art as a tool for self-expression and resistance in the face of structured power. \nFacing Change: Mexican Masking Today \nCombining contemporary artworks with a curated selection of twentieth-century Mexican masks\, this exhibition looks at the complex forms that masking takes across the Mexican diaspora. \nMore \nWorking with large-scale textile sculpture\, puzzles\, and historical photography\, Las Vegas artist Krystal Ramirez considers the value of protest and proposes that interruptions to our accustomed ways of thinking can keep us anchored in reality. \nIngress: A Photopoetry Exhibition \nCurator Maryam Ala Amjadi and photographer Sasan N. Chegini bring together street photography from Iran and translations of classical Persian poetry in a layered encounter between image and verse\, tracing women’s embodiment across public space and literary memory. \nBetween Two Terms \nLas Vegas artist Ali Fathollahi takes a sharply humorous look at the frailty and hubris of public communication in this new Window Gallery installation  \nThe evening will include a live performance of “Cloudline\,” Jennifer Bellor’s new composition for vibraphone\, percussion\, and alto sax (5:20 p.m.); a discussion between Bellor and singer-songwriter Allison Clarke; a reading by artist Brian McNamara; music in the garden with Chilean DJ Double Peas\, and show-and-tell tables featuring participating partners from University of Nevada\, Las Vegas and the community. The reception coincides with the UNLV Art Walk\, a campus-wide College of Fine Arts event filled with performances\, activities\, refreshments\, and more art. \nImage \nFederico Cuatlacuatl\, Nacaxtotomo\, 2024\, Mixed media\, dried ixtle natural fiber\, synthetic textile fabrics\, palm reeds\, iridescent vinyl\, handcrafted papier mâché and gold leaf.
