The exhibition is on view at Nevada State University through Dec. 4\, 2026. \nThis traveling exhibition\, curated by the Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Services Program\, features 2023 fellows: Jeffrey Burden of Las Vegas\, Glynn Cartledge of Reno\, Gig Depio of Las Vegas\, Miya Hannan of Reno\, Brent Holmes of Las Vegas\, and Bobbie Ann Howell of Las Vegas. Each artist created work independently of one another and with no intention of ever appearing together; yet\, when shown alongside one another\, the exhibit reveals how an artist’s place\, time and environment can create unexpected and unintended connections that share human experiences. Under the direction of Miriam Vázquez and Emily Vargas\, the first female mariachi director duo in the Clark County School District\, the ensemble is committed to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of mariachi while bringing together young musicians from diverse backgrounds. \nMariachi Alas Doradas has earned recognition at the local\, state and national levels\, including first place at the 2024 Encuentro del Mariachi at University of California Berkeley\, second place at the 2026 Mariachi Extravaganza National Competition\, and first place at the 2026 University of San Diego National Mariachi Competition. The ensemble also earned a unanimous superior-plus rating at the 2026 Clark County School District Advanced Mariachi Festival. \nTheir accomplishments and community impact have been recognized by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo\, the city of Las Vegas\, the Clark County Commission\, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen\, and Congresswoman Dina Titus.
